Letter to the Editor about success with dyslexia with Paul Beatty

Letter to the Editor of The Oakville Beaver from Susan Nicholas, May 5, 2006

I attended a seminar this week on Tuesday May 2nd at Le Dome, presented by Halton Healthcare in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health focusing on Learning Disabilities. This is how it was presented in an ad in The Oakville Beaver. I would have been led to believe by Dr. Alan Brown, M.D., Child &Adolescent Psychiatrist, Halton Healthcare Services and Dr. Janice Baker, Ph.D., Psychologist, Peel District board of Education, that a condition I lived with for 57 years was a mental illness, irreversible, a condition I would have to learn to live with, developing coping skills and medicating myself, no wonder, the function was supported by an educational grant by a drug company, Eli Lilly.

We were told that 8 children died in the studies out of the thousands that participated in the trials along with the host of other side effects ranging from headaches to liver damage - but these were relatively small numbers! Isn’t 1 child’s death 1 too many? Drugs have to go through toxicology because they are toxic to the body! Diet and nutrition? Not important, anti-oxidants, vitamins/minerals- not proven! Nothing about Good fats-the largest component of a healthy brain!

I was appalled at what was NOT being shared with the public who had come out for answers- I am presuming they did.

That evening all hope would have been taken from me of ever getting over it had I not in fact done so! Three years ago I thought I might have a hopeless condition. I had dyslexia all my life and it was getting worse as I toyed with a vegetarian diet. I’m quite sure after listening to all the diagnostics that were shared I was ADD/ADHD too. I reversed dyslexia in less than 3 months, anxiety and panic attacks are a thing of the past. I focus and retain information so much better.

Three years ago it was suggested that I might like to attend a seminar given by Paul Beatty, a specialist in Essential Fatty Acids, there on the flyer amongst degenerative diseases that could be reversed was ‘dyslexia’! I could not believe my eyes! I told no one, it was my deep, personally frightening secret! At this seminar I learned that my genetic predisposition to this condition was due to a deficiency in LONG CHAIN FATS on the rod cells behind my eyes. Putting these GOOD FATS back into my diet, with anti-oxidants to protect them and the co-factors to convert them-vitamins and minerals, I was free of this affliction in less than three months. I have listened to a mother read a moving testimonial on the progress of her autistic son as well who has gone on this simple regimen.

I personally think HOPE is very important to the human spirit and we have no right to take it away from anyone- there are some websites you can go to for information. The late Dr. David Horrobin, British scientist who led the field in research on Essential Fatty Acids, whose work is referenced everywhere today in this regard (who mentored Paul Beatty)- loads on Google, Dr. Jacqueline Stordy- UK, world renowned for her work with children with learning predispositions, www.drstordy.com , The Weston A Price Foundation, www.westonaprice.org go into ‘Tripping lightly down the prostaglandin pathways’, ‘Know your Fats’. Paul Beatty, my testimonial can be read in full by clicking here.

In my opinion parents and teachers need to be given ALL the facts, there are other options, knowledge is key to giving these children and adults a choice instead of conveniently ‘labelling’ them with a ‘mental illness’ for the rest of their lives using strategies, rewards etc. to COPE with this growing number of children with these predispositions.

Yours truly,

Susan Nicholas
