Your Choices Have Demand for Organic Foods Exceeding Supply!
An Associated Press article published Friday July 7, 2006 reports that demand for natural foods is exceeding supply. Organic products still have only a tiny slice of the food pie, about 2.5% of the total U.S. food market. But that slice is expanding at a feverish pace. Growth in sales of organic food has been over 20 percent each year compared to 2 or 4 percent for total food sales. Kroger, Safeway and SuperValu which owns Albertsons are among those selling their own organic brands. Wal-Mart is aiming to double its organic food sales. Farmers are needed—an estimated 10,000 organic farms are currently in production in North America. The word is finally out—smart consumers want food that is grown without bug killer, toxic fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics, genetic modification or any biotechnology. Governments have to start supplying grants to farmers and companies that go organic. And you have to keep reaching for organic whenever you can to ensure a longer, healthier life and cleaner environment
