Eating Whole Grains may reduce the risk of Gum Disease
Eating Whole Grains may reduce the risk of Gum Disease, also called periodontis, according to a study of more than 34,000 male health care proferssionals. Men who ate an average of 3 servings per day had a 23% lower risk than men who consumed little or no whole grains, even after various periodontal risk factors (such as smoking, alchohol, and other dietary variables) were taken into consideration.
Whole grains help control blood sugar and reduce the odds of contracting Type 2 diabetes and its well known that high blood sugar and diabetes increase the risk and severity of gum disease. And diet thats good for general health is also good for oral health, the researchers concluded.
